A Touch of Sin (2013)
“Four independent stories set in modern China about random acts of violence.”
OK. Lets start with the facts. Set in China this is a film of four (very) loosely connected stories. Each has a theme of oppression and ends in a sudden act of violence. It’s well shot and there’s nothing to fault with the acting. There. I said positives. I couldn’t get along with this at all. There was no character development; I felt no connection to anyone. The stories just seemed to meander along with no focus and its hard to spot any links between the stories apart from the vague themes mentioned above. I was hoping that I’d at least get a good conclusion but I was underwhelmed by the final scene; although I can see where it was trying to go, collective sin of everyday people? I think I’m probably missing something but this didn’t light my fire. Majorly disappointing.
